Fall is Here
Fall is finally upon us and with it come all of its delicious food and flavors. From Cinnamon, Apples, Brussels Sprouts, beets, potatoes and turnips to the star of many a farm stand, the Winter Squash! Included in these are butternut, acorn, delicata, turban and pumpkins. Pumpkins are the most common winter squash, hence the “Pumpkin Pie”. But have you heard of "Squash Pie”? Try this recipe and you may have found yourself a new holiday dessert!
Squash Custard Pie
Ingredients:
1cup Sugar
1cup mashed cooked winter squash
3 large eggs, lightly beaten
1tsp ground ginger
1tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
Dash salt
1 unbaked pastry shell
Whipped cream or topping or garnish
Directions:
1. In a bowl, combine the first 8 ingredients.
2. Pour into the pastry shell, bake at 375 for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350, bake for 45 minutes or until set. Cool on a wire rack. Chill. Garnish with whip cream.
